Freedom Kayak Rental

Freedom kayak rental

All kayak rental starts with a detailed and informative briefing on kayak routes & options, tide & weather conditions, birdwatching, kayak technique and safety. We provide a map of kayak routes showing the simple markers we have in place on the lagoon to help guide you across the shallow waters.

Kayak rental is scheduled around the best tidal conditions, for any particular day. Some water confidence & common sense is required for kayak rental, but in the right conditions this can be suitable even for first-time kayakers.

Kids below the age of 18 are half price, and must be accompanied by a bigger kid, otherwise known as an adult.

If you don’t see an available time online that works well for you, for freedom kayak rental, just call us on +64 3 753 4014 or email, and we’ll see what we can arrange.

We also offer guided kayak trips, as an alternative.

All our kayaks are modern, highest quality, stable sea kayaks; all our kayaking equipment is well maintained and cleaned after each use. We take real pride in having the best equipment for our kayakers to enjoy their experience.

We deliberately also take time to set kayakers up to be comfortable and confident before setting out on their adventure with us, without rushing.

Freedom kayak rental is fully supported; all booked times include thirty minutes to fully brief, equip, and launch you before you set off on your adventure. We suggest arriving ten to fifteen minutes before your start time to be ready to kayak on time for your briefing, to get the most out of your time exploring.

Where to find us

Ōkārito is a small, peaceful village on the western sea coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

Only 10km off the main highway, Ōkārito is about 25-minutes drive north of Franz Josef Glacier. Look for the signposted turn-off between Lake Mapourika and Lake Wahapo.

You’ll find spacious, private car parking at our two red sheds on the left just as you enter the village, with a homely base building and bathrooms for comfort.
